Why standard PDA interfaces?

Data structures must be defined in advance to ensure the optimum provision of data from the control units of various manufacturers. Standardised data structures are a prerequisite in the control unit software of machine suppliers to ensure consistent data management. Raw data (e.g. fault and operational messages, process signals or target values) are stored in defined data blocks for all control units in the same structure to ensure the quality of the data pool.

Since every beverage filling plant is different, companies are often faced with great challenges when implementing an integrated PDA system without standard interfaces. In contrast, standard specifications can result in considerable cost reductions. This is the reason why a standard PDA interface specification - the Weihenstephan Standards – has been developed by the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
